Investigation into Marcin Zalewski's 3bld solves
#1
Zitat:Dear Community,

The WDC have spent a significant amount of time investigating this high-profile case, and this is a sad day for our community.

Marcin Zalewski (2011ZALE02) has admitted that recently he sometimes knew the colour of the centre piece on top, before he took the cube cover off.

Krzysztof Kuncki (2010KUNC01), who has been a Polish Delegate since 2013, admits that he broke the regulations by telling Marcin the colour of the top centre piece.

We also find suspicious behaviour in videos of Marcin's solves over the last few years, such as preferential orientation occurring a very unlikely number of times, or the first few seconds of solves being cut off.

We would like to point out that although knowing the colour of the top centre piece may not seem like much, but at world-class level the time advantage is significant.

Unfortunately despite the serious warnings given in the investigation of Marcin Kowalczyk's solves in November 2013, Marcin Zalewski and Krzysztof have shown that they haven't learnt their lesson. The below action has been taken on solves from the date of that post onwards.

Aside from the basic facts, their experience, past character, responsibilities and responses have also been taken into account.

With support from the WCA Board, the following action will be taken:
- Marcin Zalewski's 3bld solves to be changed to DNF from Cuber's Eve 2013 until SLS Chorzow 2014 (inclusive)
- Krzyzstof Kuncki's delegate status to be permanently removed
- Marcin Zalewski to be banned from WCA competitions until end of June 2016
- Krzysztof Kuncki to be banned from WCA competitions until end of June 2016

As an aside, the DNFs will include a WR 23.68 solve at SLS Chornow 2014. This beat his old WR record of 23.80. These times have now been superseded. Nobody will gain any records retroactively due to this DNF.

We have not included all the details of the investigation in this public post, as this is not deemed necessary. Please be assured that all aspects of this case have been investigated thoroughly.

This case has been upsetting to all those involved, and we sincerely thank all those who contributed. We hope that this incident can serve as a lesson to many people and help us to move forward to even fairer and more fun competitions in the future.

Regards,
WCA Disciplinary Committee
